The Standard: US online retail sales top $100B in 2003
Forrester reports that 2003 saw online retail sales grow past the $100 billion mark, to $114 billion, growing an amazing 51 percent and comprising 5.4 percent of all American sales. The study also showed e-tailers reporting operating margins of about 21 percent, up from 2002's merely break-even profitability. Four out of five online retailers reported profits in 2003. The study said that next year would likely see that huge sum grow by a quarter to $144 billion and account for about one in every fifteen dollars spent.
