Online Retailer Promotions Drive Holiday Traffic

eBay was the most-visited site on both Black Friday and Cyber Monday, with Amazon.com, Wal-Mart and Target trailing; moreover, Cyber Monday outpaced Black Friday in online shopping, according to Nielsen/NetRatings' Holiday eShopping Index, writes the E-Commerce Times. There was 15 percent more traffic on Cyber Monday than on Black Friday. Overstock.com, Dell, Shopping.com, BestBuy.com, Netflix , Shopzilla.com and CircuitCity.com rounded out the top visited sites.

Black Friday traffic to online shopping sites grew 39 percent week-over-week from home, while Cyber Monday retail traffic grew 18 percent week-over-week from work.

Scott Silverman, executive director of Shop.org, said the most significant aspect of the 2005 holiday season has been aggressive online retail promotions - such as "buy one get one free" or free shipping.
