Online newspaper adspend continued double-digit growth in the second quarter of the year, increasing 28.6 percent from the same period a year ago and reaching $500.7 million, according to estimates from the Newspaper Association of America (NAA). Total newspaper adspend in 2Q05 was up 2.8 percent from 2Q04, reaching $12.2 billion.
For the first half of the year, online adspend totaled 955.3 million, up from 714.8 million in the first half of last year - or a 33.6 percent increase. Total print and online ad spending in the first half totaled $23.2 billion, an increase of 3.2 percent.
According to NAA President and CEO John F. Sturm, "Advertisers…are finding real value in the varied efforts by newspapers to expand…beyond their core print products. One example is online, as newspaper sites continue to rank at the top of the most visited online news sources in the nation."
