Online Media M&A to Stay Hot

Online media acquisitions are likely to continue at a stepped-up pace as traditional, slower-growing media seek high-growth firms (e.g., Scripps's purchase of Shopzilla) - particularly those that can make online advertising more efficient as online adspend takes off - according to Tolman Geffs, managing director at mergers and acquisitions firm The Jordan, Edmiston Group Inc. (JEGI), writes AdWeek.

Geffs is also quoted as saying that "the big players see that blogs are a real business," citing AOL's acquisition of Weblogs Inc. ($20 million) and Verisign's purchase of Moreover ($30 million); JEGI represented Moreover in the transaction - the largest blog-related deal to date.

He furthermore points to a fragmented ad network space, with dozens of networks vying for inventory on thousands of sites. "There will be action there," he says.
