International Herald Tribune: Hold all bets: Search engines end casino ads
In February, more than 100,000 people searched for "casino gambling" or "gambling" on sites within the Overture network. A similar proportion probably did at Google and its network as well. If ten percent of those searchers click on ads, then that was $100,000 in revenue at a typical $10 a click. In May, that number will be zero, at least from offshore advertisers for online gambling.
The portals are shutting down advertising for offshore gambling, and that's where online casinos get much of their business, using terms that go from the generic like "blackjack" to "bet on baseball." All the terms will then be left to the US casinos looking to drive gamblers to Vegas, Atlantic City or the Indian-owned casinos.
