U.K. regional newspapers' efforts to expand online have borne fruit, with online advertising on local sites nearly doubling last year - increasing more than 95 percent in the 12 months to January 2005 - reports the U.K.'s Guardian (via paidcontent), citing the Newspaper Society's annual industry survey. The Society said regional publishers were using a variety of new publications, including websites and niche publications, to reach a broader range of readers.
