AdWeek: Web Records Robust Q1 Ad Spend Rise
As ad spending across the board rose ten percent in the first quarter, TNS Media Intelligence/CMR reported online spending rose a whopping 28 percent to $1.9 billion. These figures expand the difference seen between the CMR numbers and those reported earlier by Interactive Advertising Bureau, which showed higher spending last year and an even greater growth this year - 40 percent for the quarter, to bring it up to $2.3 billion.
The IAB figures use financial filings from typically large sites and extrapolate them across the web, which in the past has led to severe distortions due to improperly reported revenues. In contrast, the CMR's AdNetTrackUS product conducts a bottom-up analysis by counting ads on sites and estimating what they cost, which involves its own uncertainties.
