Online Casino Operators Seek Compensation for EU Lockout

Online craps: a cashcow for
vendors and advertisers alike

Operators of online casinos in Europe are pressuring the European Union to seek compensation from the US for a Stateside ban on online gambling, reports The Globe & Mail.

The request for compensation comes as US enacts a ban on online gambling that was put in place in late '06.

The Caribbean island of Antigua joined European online casino operators in asking the EU to seek US$100 billion in compensation. Officials here in the States called the figure "ridiculous" and offered other trade packages to make up for revenue lost resulting from the ban.

Earlier this year Congressional Democrats tried to have the ban dropped, encouraging regulation over restriction.

Some hoping to bring online gambling back say such regulations would go a long way to making the hobby less of a danger for exploitation by money launderers and other bad-actors.
