Adland uncovered a bit of alleged deliberate dishonesty in an Ogilvy effort to publicize a campaign it did for American Express. A polite note sent from a purported student - also received by MarketingVOX and other trade publications - pointed to an integrated online and outdoor campaign in Europe. Adland covered the campaign, but soon sleuthed out the fact that the email came from an Ogilvy address. The letter, apparently disingenuously, started off, "I am a last year student at university and I hope to start working in advertising next year. Your blog is a real source of inspiration…" Adland covered the campaign - something it likely would have done had it come directly from an Ogilvy executive, as that is what the site does. But now, as the trackbacks indicate on Adland, ad-related blogs are taking great pleasure in skewering Ogilvy as a means to show how even below ad executives, there are sometimes PR employees saddled with trade campaigns.
