Amp'd shuts down today. The MVNO, geared toward gen Y, announced it would be "potentially suspending US operations on July 24th," according to Wired's Epicenter.
Amp'd was a mobile TV pioneer closing a content deal with MTV in late 2006. One offering, Lil' Bush, escaped to television, where it's become an animated series on cable's Comedy Central.
The MVNO's abrupt end have many worried about how Amp'd will deal with its current subscribers. Wired publishes the post-announcement FAQ for Amp'd subscribers and GigaOM points out the inherent risks of entrusting fragile startups with our identities.
Launched in December of 2005, the company announced Chapter 11 last month before expiring today.
