Finely tuned
The meme about applying President Obama's media segmentation tactics in a commercial context is making the rounds of the dead tree trade magazines. Reaching voters/consumers where they are at the moment, rather than in relevant context, isn't terribly new, and it would require traditional media agencies to multiply the number of transactions per million dollars spent, which is, well, terribly inconvenient.
The online agency youngsters may yet be so tolerant. Prior to them inheriting the client relationships, and actually forcing the budget owners to pay for such overhead, expect to see this meme come back periodically, whenever someone has $1 billion to spend in a hurry… say, every four years.
