Obama Makes Gold-Medal Buy in Beijing Olympics

Game on

Senator Barack Obama's Presidential campaign made a $5 million ad buy in the Beijing Olympics. The package, which supposedly represents the most significant network-TV buy of any Presidential candidate in 16 years, includes network TV and cable advertising, writes Advertising Age.

NBC Universal, which expects to rake in $1 billion in ad revenue from the Beijing games, will air Olympics coverage across NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, USA Network, Oxygen and Telemundo. It was not revealed where or when Obama's spots would air.

Last month Team Obama inquired with NBC about the cost of an Olympic ad buy. Options presented ranged from $500,000 to $10 million.

A recent survey found Obama eclipses Senator John McCain in online buzz and social networking activity. McCain also lags behind Obama in online fundraising.
