NYTimes.com Taps Yahoo's Gaylord as Marketing VP

NY Times.com will name Murray Gaylord vice-president of marketing by Jan. 8. He has spent the last six years as vice-president of brand marketing at Yahoo.

Gaylord will report to SVP Vivian Schiller and will oversee marketing, customer service, research and web analytics, MediaPost reports. He is quoted as saying he wants the site to attract more attention from younger readers and "embrace more web 2.0 features and define what the brand stands for through online and offline marketing programs."

The digital edition of the NY Times has outlined several areas of growth for 2007, including new multi-platform products and services, increased operational efficiency andĀ building a long-term "innovation capability" to anticipate trends.The New York Times Co. projected its internet revenue to grow 30 percent in 2007 - that is, some $80 million more than the nearly $270 million in internet-related revenue this year, including from About.com, NYTimes.com, Boston.com, iht.comĀ and sites associated with its regional newspapers.
