New York Times' Web Site Plans Print-Like Ad Format
AdAge: NYTIMES.com to Offer Half Page Ads
BlogAds' Henry Copeland points out that we missed this important story earlier in the week: NYTimes.com, fresh off the success of its much-talked-about Surround Session ad format, is innovating again with a new super-large ad format due out this April, as part of a general revamping of the site.
Pictured here from the WSJ story, the new ads look like something seriously large, basically half a page wide. If my wife's reaction is anything to go by, not all readers are likely to be impressed, but I bet advertisers will devour them.
This is the trend, people: Salon's Ultramercials, Marketwatch's roadblock entrance ads, MSNBC's interstitials. Big ads are in. I'm just wondering what the industry is likely to call this new format? I didn't catch that from the WSJ piece. Here are some of my recommendations:
- Wide Loads
- Fat Asses
- Super Chunk
- Bad Boys
- The Americana
