The New York Times Company has seen slower profit growth in the first quarter of 2007, a slowness it expects to continue throughout 2007, reports PaidContent.
Revenue from internet operations, including online ads, was up just 21.6 percent and the firm warned investors not to count on the 30 percent future growth it had once forecast. Online revenue made up 9.5 percent of overall revenue, up from 7.6 percent in the first quarter of 2006.
Revenue from About.com grew 23.8 percent to $22.5 million, up from $18.2 million last year. Much of that came from higher display and CPC ad prices. Traffic to About.com, though, has not grown at the same clip as in previous quarters. CPM rates at About.com have been affected by the moderation of traffic volume.
NYTCo says it has a good relationship with Google for advertising and is not interested in joining Yahoo's consortium of newspaper publishers.
