NYT: AOL Founder Said to Consider a Spinoff
Lots of media outlets have picked up a Reuters story today based on this NYT piece that quotes unnamed company officials who say that AOL founder Steve Case privately favors spinning out the struggling online media giant from Time Warner, once the subject of the world's largest merger just a few years ago, under Case's stewardship. Publicly, Case denies the rumors.
With all the attention to the flaky reporting of some of its journalists of late, one wonders at the wisdom of the NYT publishing such a speculative story, particularly considering that Case has relatively little influence at AOL anymore, as the story points out. But since it's the big buzz of the morning, I dutifully report it here for you.
