Nokia to Buy Interface Developer Trolltech

Troll ... tech?

Nokia is spending $153 million to buy Trolltech, a Norwegian developer of interfaces for mobile and embedded devices.

The purchase may help improve the functionality of Nokia's S40 and S60 phones. According to IDG News Service, Trolltech's Qt cross-platform development framework is widely used in desktop apps like Skype and Adobe.

Further, its Qtopia user interface framework was the basis for a Samsung project in 2006.

This is only the latest effort Nokia has made to insure its future in a time of changing mobile expectations. Early this year it announced a partnership to bring Facebook to its phones. Last September, it bought mobile ad firm Enpocket.
