Nielsen has findings showing DVRs are at least partially to blame for declining TV viewership, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
While other factors may be made clarified in the final report, initial findings from Nielsen point to the DVR as a major cause of the drop in the amount of TV watched. They also said the fact that it's neither an Olympic nor an election year plays a part.
While the DVR has often been portrayed as an enemy to advertisements, as conventional wisdom holds that people with DVRs watch more TV and not less.
It's not stated whether the decline will also be pegged in part on the ubiquity of prime-time shows online.
