Beginning this season, Sprint Nextel customers will be able to receive audio and text-based updates on NFL games as they are being played, as well as audio and video highlights of the games after TV broadcasts air, reports Mediaweek (via MediaBuyerPlanner). Users of Sprint Nextel's mobile devices will also be eligible to receive live NFL programming and on-demand clips from NFL archives developed specifically for the mobile environment.
In addition, football fans will be able to manage fantasy teams, download NFL ringtones and screensavers, and take part in NFL-related polls and contests, including Super Bowl MVP and Pro Bowl balloting.
This content-delivery deal makes up one part of a larger sponsorship making Sprint the official wireless telecommunications sponsor of the NFL, beginning with Opening Kickoff 2005, taking place September 8 between the Patriots and the Raiders. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
