Newspapers' Future Likely Online

Newspapers face declining circulation and falling stock prices, but two reports issued this week suggest newspaper websites offer new hope, writes the Washington Post. Unique visitors to newspaper sites increased 21 percent from January to December last year, according to the Newspaper Association of America (NAA). Online advertising revenue is also growing at a pace that matches the double-digit increases in online readers.

Also, preliminary results of Scarborough Research study found more evidence that younger people are interested in online news. For example, 37 percent of adults who visited the Washington Post's website in the past 30 days were ages 18 to 34, though only 26 percent of the newspaper's print readers are in the same age bracket.
