News Corp's Fox Interactive Buys Sports Sites

News Corp's newly formed internet division is acquiring Seattle-based Scout Media, a network of some 200 sports websites and 47 team-specific magazines, reports the Seattle Post-Intelligencer (via techdirt).

In a statement, Fox Interactive Media President Ross Levinsohn said the partnership would create the "deepest, most sweeping sports coverage on the Web."

The acquisition comes as Rupert Murdoch's News Corp is making a push online. Last month, it paid $580 million in cash to buy Intermix and MySpace.com.

Scout Media attracts about 2.4 million users a month to its network of sports sites, including Dawgman.com, eDuck Sports and Bucknuts. It will be combined with FoxSports.com to create in-depth coverage of college and professional sports.

Some 200,000 people pay $9.95 a month to subscribe to Scout.com sites, which provide recruiting news, injury reports and other insider information.
