'Half of Europe
Hates my guts…'
Gregg and Evan Spiridellis's latest online animated jab, titled "2-0-5!" - once again aimed at at President Bush - debuted last night on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," writes CNET. It is the fifth film for the JibJab brothers since their hugely popular "This Land," which poked fun at the 2004 presidential candidates. Since then, the brothers have signed onto partnerships with Yahoo and MSN and projects with the Sundance Film Festival and Anheuser-Busch.
Still, JibJab is barely profitable, in part because producing ad-supported (mainly pre-roll ads) online entertainment is "still a very shaky business model," according to Gregg Spiridellis.
Some major brands, including Sprint, have signed on, however. But not content to rely solely on advertising, JibJab has just introduced $1.99 iPod-compatible downloads of its movies, available on its site, and is working to deliver them to mobile phones as well.
The cast of characters in "2-0-5" are from George Bush's difficult second term, including indicted Bush advisor Lewis "Scooter" Libby Jr., indicted Congressman Tom DeLay and North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, and is set to "Auld Lang Syne" and other holiday tunes.
