New Wikia Search Engine Causes Rumor Eruption

Wikia Search's

Since the London Times published a story before Christmas regarding Wikia's "Google Killer," Wikia has released updated info onĀ its new search engine to slow the rumor mill in the blogosphere - including a screengrab of the app that Wikia founder Jimmy Wales says is inaccurate.

What is apparently true is that the search engine that will "change everything" (possibly named Wikiasari in an earlier project stage), instead of relying on search algorithms, will rely on people to deliver reliable search results instead of spam.

"Google is very good at many types of search, but in many instances it produces nothing but spam and useless crap," Wales told the London Times. "Try searching for the term 'Tampa hotels,' for example, and you will not get any useful results."

The new company will be the third business division of Wikia, the for-profit company that Wales founded in 2005 and is now led by CEO Gil Penchina. Wikia has raised over $4 million in capital, including a recent round by Amazon.
