'Network Live' to Broadcast via 'Net, Wireless

A new joint venture between AOL, XM Satellite Radio, and AEG will deliver entertainment - mainly live and on-demand concerts and comedy shows - via the internet, satellite, wireless, and other platforms, Business Week reports (via MediaBuyerPlanner). The company, called Network Live, follows the success of the Live 8 concerts, which AOL delivered in seven separate feeds without any meltdowns. Five million people viewed the shows online, and AOL peaked with 175,000 simultaneous users, a new record for AOL.

AOL currently offers video programs online, both live and on demand, but the new venture will expand on the numbers and types. Content on AOL will also reach XM's 4.4 million subscribers on existing satellite radio channels.

The announcement of Network Live forms another link in a series of similar announcements: CBS News will offer a 24-hour news network online, and Nickelodeon will broadcast up to 20 hours of new programming online each week.
