NBC Olympics Website Rises to Occasion, Unlike TV

With a week of competition still left in the Winter Games in Turin (Torino), Italy, NBC's video-rich Olympics website, wNBCOlympics.com, has attracted more than 167 million pageviews, surpassing the 145 million for the entire 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, reports the Associated Press. The site delivered 4.2 million video streams through Thursday, or some 42,000 hours' worth. It also broke a daily pageview record on Monday with 29 million; the previous record was 21 million on Aug. 17, 2004, during the Summer Games in Athens.

NBCOlympics.com also surpassed the American Idol site in visits through Sunday, according to Nielsen/NetRatings, even though the reality show easily beat Olympics TV coverage on Tuesday and Wednesday.

For the first four days of the games, the average Olympics TV viewership of 21.6 million people was down 36 percent from Salt Lake City.
