Though local television advertising is tanking by some estimates, hyper-targeted local content remains a sweet spot online.
With that in mind, NBC is launching Neighborhood News Pages, available in nine of its owned-and-operated markets and seven in the top 10, MediaBuyerPlanner writes.
The sites will pull news from NBC's local TV affiliates and from elsewhere around the web, organizing the info by topics like news, sports, health, around town, weather and traffic, writes MediaPost.
"Publishers can use our Neighborhood News Pages to create thousands of discrete, highly targeted local news pages to complement their national and regional coverage," explained CEO Mark Josephson Outside.in, the company that built the pages. Outside.in covers local blogs, mainstream media and Twitter streams.
National and local ads, sold by the O&O teams as well as NBC's national sales team, appear on Neighborhood News Pages.
NBCU’s owned-and-operated TV stations saw revenue drop 25% in 4Q08, while operating profit slipped 55% from the same quarter in 2007.
