MySpace Can't Take the Heat; Goes down, Comes up

Millions of teenagers had to find something else to do when MySpace went offline Sunday and into early Monday.

The record-breaking temperatures in California that overwhelmed electrical power grids resulted in a nearly 12-hour outage of MySpace.com as well, writes Silicon.com. The MySpace homepage was replaced by a placeholder with a message from the site's founder, Tom Anderson. The note said a power outage in the MySpace data center at 6:40 p.m. (Pacific) had brought the site down and that it would likely be up again within an hour (see graphic).

The site was up again more than 11 hours later. But MySpace users had a Flash game of Pac-Man to keep them busy - so the potential hazards of having to resort to, say, reading a book were averted.

Some 175,000 homes and businesses lost electricity over the weekend in the Los Angeles area. Outages were reported in San Francisco and San Diego as well.
