MySpace is top
producer of blogs
Some 64 percent of all pings from blogs in English is spam, while studies from last year found that close to 75 percent of all pings in English blogs was spam, according to ebiquity group (via Micro Persuasion). The new study was based on 8.8 million pings on weblogs.com between January 23 and 26.
Another finding is that MySpace, as blog host, is now the biggest contributor to the blogosphere, while LiveJournal and other hosts managed by SixApart contribute 50-60 percent of what MySpace does. MySpace's growth rate is also eclipsing that of splogs.
Fifty-one percent of blogspot blogs were spam. However, most of the spam is now detected by blog search engines. Blogspot hosts the highest number of splogs.
Finally, content on .info domains continues to be a huge problem - 99.75 percent of all blogs hosted with such domains is spam. In other words, 1.65 million blogs were spam blogs, as opposed to only around 4,000 authentic blogs.
