Linux cyber-battle turns nasty
The BBC reports that the likely original source of the MyDoom virus - the latest worm to effect millions of computers worldwide - likely comes from the Linux open source community. The worm's target, SCO, has been initiating legal actions claiming ownership over some of Linux's code. SCO has been using the legal system as non-traditional marketing mechanism, suing prominent firms as a high-profile method to sow fear and doubt in the whole community about using Linux. The worm may prove to be yet another non-traditional marketing medium. The message: stop it.
