Once again unhappy with the amount of revenue they're bringing in, the major music labels are asking Apple to adopt a subscription model for iTunes, reports the Financial Times.
Such a model, which would have users paying regular minimum fee in addition to paying per download, would give the labels some guaranteed income.
The labels are coming off yet another year of continuing declines in compact disc sales as they enter into agreement renewal talks with Apple.
The record companies are also expected to again ask Apple to introduce a variable pricing structure on iTunes - that is, charge more for new releases and less for catalog titles.
