Murdoch Sets Sights on Men 18-34

IGN Entertainment - a videogame-related company that's considering an initial public offering or sale - is a likely takeover target by Rupert Murdoch's media conglomerate News Corp., reports the Financial Times (via paidcontent). IGN could be valued at up to $800 million. IGN's games network and businesses target men age 18-34: The IGN and GameSpy websites provide videogame news and reviews; Rotten Tomatoes and Filmforce cover movies.

In June, IGN acquired male lifestyle site Askmen.com, adding 3.8 million visitors to its network, which reached more than 24 million in March, according to Media Metrix.

News Corp. recently bought sports web company Scout Media as well as Intermix, which runs the highly popular social networking site MySpace.com. Those acquisitions have increased News Corp's online audience from 16 million unique visitors a month to nearly 50 million. Murdoch earlier this year identified the internet as a priority and said he was willing to spend up to $2 billion on acquisitions.

News Corp. is reportedly in talks to acquire audio/video search engine Blinkx and is considering other, smaller internet acquisitions; it recently made a $90 million offer for an Australian online property listing site, real-estate.com.au.
