Microsoft released new versions of its Messenger instant messaging service its MSN Spaces blog community, adding advertising opportunities. The AP reports Microsoft is letting some advertisers create "theme packs" that will let users employ branded elements on their own communications, much like someone might wear branded clothes. Using branded emoticons, backgrounds and other graphics, MSN hopes to create a new way to let advertisers exploit the viral nature of personal communications. Adidas and Sprite will be the first clients.
