Stealing the thunder from other, yet-to-be-launched social-network tools, Mozilla will soon offer such a network within the framework of its Firefox internet browser, reports TechCrunch.
The social network will be called The Coop and will allow users to subscribe to content from and push content to a list of friends. Such content will be pulled from a user's Flickr, del.icio.us and other social-media profiles. Users of The Coop will be able to see the status of the friends on that list.
That such user status can be seen from within the browser could mean slowed pageview growth for networks that count on users visiting the site to check on their friends. A decrease in pageviews could have a direct impact on the advertising revenue of those sites.
The release of The Coop could be devastating to the makers of Flock, an as-yet-to-be released social browser that was to have some of the same features.
