MoveOn Solicits Agency Assistance for Presidential Campaign

Democracy served hot or cold?

Political nonprofit MoveOn.org is seeking creative entries from agencies in order to help steer the 2008 Presidential election in its favor.

MoveOn's political "ad network" will be organized by Fenton Communications, the PR firm representing MoveOn. Jonathan Cranin, formerly chief creative officer at McCann Erickson, shall act as chief talent recruiter and director.

Agencies of interest will receive creative briefs and can submit print, broadcast and online advertising. Ads will be tested for effectiveness, likely through an online voting system distributed to MoveOn 3.2 million members via email.

The network shall focus on global warming, foreign policy, human rights and public health, in addition to major political events. Agencies will also assist with major Senate races, in addition to the 2008 Presidential election.

CEO David Fenton of Fenton Communcations compared the effort to Hal Riney's Tuesday Team for the Reagan Campaign.

"The resulting 'Morning in America' and 'Bear in the Woods' ads are among the best ever made in politics. We are looking to create a similar collaboration," said Fenton.

MoveOn recently launched a pro-Obama campaign called Obama in 30 Seconds, which solicited user-generated advertising for Presidential candidate Barack Obama. It also distributes anti-McCain advertising and was credited for igniting controversy about Facebook's Beacon.
