CTNow: Not Your Father's Car Ad
Nothing much new here in this praise from the Hartford [Connecticut] Courant for the advermovies for BMW and Honda, but it's nicely told and more support for my rant yesterday about "invertising." I particularly like his last paragraph:
With both the Honda and BMW spots, you know you're watching an ad. In an age of aggressive marketing, this is a refreshing proposition: Give me a commercial worth watching, and I won't complain about the relentless creep of advertising.
And, FWIW, we can attest only too well as to the popularity of that Honda ad in particular. in the first several weeks after I first posted the link to it, more than 50% of all of our traffic came from Google in response to searches for it, and while traffic has died down a bit, it continues to be a strong draw. Franky, that isn't really good news from our point of view, as those are not our core B2B marketing readers but just people looking for entertainment.
Did you get that? — looking for entertainment, FROM AN AD!!
And in case you doubt their passion for the ad, read the 100+ comments the post has generated as to whether the ad is real or uses CGI. (People, get a life!)
