An increasing amount of big-name companies are looking for new hires within Second Life and other virtual worlds, reports The Globe & Mail.
Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft and the Vancouver Police Department are just a few of the entities seeking to hire real world talent by engaging with their avatars in-world. To meet people the recruiters themselves are going avatar to meet potential employees.
Those who showed an interest in becoming a Vancouver police officer as a result of in-world communication were asked to fill out a real world application.
The use of virtual worlds for business purposes is also creating a set of standards and etiquette unique to that environment. That includes real world manners, a dress code of sorts, and other tactics that are just as applicable for avatars as they are for real people looking for a job.
