Research firms Telephia and comScore have teamed up to launch MobileWeb Metrix, an internet audience measurement tool.

MobileWeb Metrix compares and combines internet usage data from the two firms, providing media companies, advertisers and agencies; the service provides detailed comparisons of PC and mobile audiences that view internet content.

"Robust measurement is the key to making the mobile web successful with consumers and advertisers. By working together, Telephia and comScore have delivered an important piece of this new media measurement toolkit," said Sid Gorham, President and CEO, Telephia.

Initial results from MobileWeb Metrix have determined that weather sites such as The Weather Channel, AccuWeather and Yahoo Weather actually had a higher reach among mobile users than PC users.

All three sites had mobile-to-PC reach index scores above 120, indicating much stronger reach among mobile Web users than among PC Web users.

Mobile search, while holding promise for the future, still trails PC-based queries, as Google Search and Yahoo Search have index scores of 23 and 25, respectively, indicating that their reach is much higher among PC users than mobile users.
