It's New Year's Eve and yes, there are apps for that.
For people hosting their own party, iBartender can be an invaluable reference. Its database houses thousands of drink instructions, and serve them up in a simple and straightforward format.
Out on the Town
Another interesting app - one with a social and local element - is Happy Houred, sponsored by Don Q Rum and Tito's Handmade Vodka. Unlike iBartender, it doesn’t instruct you on how to make a Cosmopolitan - but it does give you directions to the nearest, cheapest one.
Happy Houred users can search a nationwide database for deals by bar, type of drink, kind of bar, and distance from any location. They are also encouraged to personalize the database with their own photos as well as reviews of bars and happy hours.
The app launched in October with bar and happy hour information in a number of cities including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, Austin, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Miami, San Jose, Portland, and New Orleans.
Countdown to Midnight
When the clock is nearing midnight, the New Year's Eve Countdown 2010 app
kicks into high gear, erupting in fireworks - or some other customizabel iconic party scene - at the appropriate moment.
The Morning After
After New Year's Eve come new year's resolutions. Make It Happen, available on iTunes, helps users manage their goals, from stopping smoking to losing weight. The app instructs users to input specifics, such as how many miles will be run or walked in a particular day or how many cigarettes have been cut back for the month.
It also comes equipped with progress bars and helpful reminders if you fall short.
