ClickZ: Feds Call for Summit, ESPs Push On With Authentication
Email service providers (ESPs) and a few federal regulatory bodies are showing signs of moving forward, despite confusion coming after Microsoft's Sender ID protocol was rejected by a standards body due to the firm's desire to continue to own parts of it. The Federal Trade Commission, which has indicated strong support for the standard, and the National Institute for Standards and Technology announced they will hold a summit in November to try to find answers to questions about what would happen if authentication standards like Sender ID were widely adopted. Meanwhile, in the ESP market, many companies are adopting both the Sender ID and the more generic SPF protocols to ensure that their subscribers' emails continue to get delivered.
