Microsoft Inks Web Video Search Deal with Blinkx

Microsoft has partnered with Blinkx to use its video search technology on Live.com and some parts of its MSN site.

For the use of Blinkx's video search, Microsoft will pay an outright licensing fee based on the amount of use vistors to Microsoft's sites make of the video search, Suranga Chandratillake, Blinkx cofounder and CTO told Reuters. Blinkx is emerging as a major player in web video search and already powers AOL, Lycos, and Times Online, having indexed over six million hours of audio, video and TV programming to make it searchable.

Unlike most of its competitors, Blinkx's video search technology goes beyond simple text-search methods, incorporating voice recognition, image and contextual analysis into the provided results. Accordingly, users can search for spoken words contained in the video.
