Microsoft bought Lookout, a software firm that specialized in helping users of Microsoft Outlook search through old email messages and even desktop files - something the ubiquitous email program does poorly. The acquisition signals that Microsoft will indeed be open to using an acquisitions strategy to flesh out its search portfolio of products and functions if its own homegrown efforts prove inferior.
