Microsoft Takes Stake in CareerBuilder

Microsoft has paid an undisclosed amount for a four percent stake in job site CareerBuilder.com, reports The Associated Press.

The software giant joins Gannett, Tribune Co. and McClatchy as stakeholders, though on a much smaller level. The deal is a move to get a portion of revenue generated by online classifieds.

CareerBuilder is the top jobs site on the internet, with 15.4 million U.S. visitors just in March. Monster.com comes in second with eight million, followed by Yahoo's HotJobs with 5.4 million.

CareerBuilder listings will now be part of MSN's international sites, expanding the job network's reach. The site expects to pay Microsoft $443 million over the next seven years as part of the deal.

CareerBuilder has been powering MSN job listings since 2004. The new agreement extends this relationship to 2013.
