Last week Microsoft and South Korea's LG Electronics, a major mobile phone manufacturer, developed a cross-licensing relationship that enables Microsoft technology to appear on LG phones, reports CMSWire.
The deal states LG may use an undefined “patented Microsoft technology” in its products.
Microsoft also has access to LG's patents, but of particular interest are those that are facets of architecture in gaming consoles.
Financial terms regarding the deal were not released, but Microsoft stated it would make a “net balancing” payment for patents related to operating systems and computer systems. LG will pay Microsoft for coverage of the patents it uses in its Linux-based devices.
