Microsoft Delays Aussie Debut of Sanity

Australian music-lovers will observe another delay to the launch of Sanity, a digital music store co-created by Microsoft, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.

The subscription-based digital music store was announced near the end of January, serving as one of the main selling points of the Australian Windows Vista launch. The store will give people access to over a million songs and allow them to download up to 300 tracks per month. Customers may also purchase songs outright.

The Sanity digital store debut has been moved to mid-June. The delay may suggest Microsoft wishes to coincide the launch with the Zune, which has yet to arrive in Australia.

Sanity's service will employ Microsoft's DRM technology, giving the files limited distribution and incompatibility with Apple's iPod.

Sanity is a music and movie retailer based in Australia.
