ClickZ: Micropayments On The Rise
A Peppercoin and Ipsos-Reid study showed that about one in six people surveyed said they had used credit cards or other non-cash means to buy something for less than $5 - the threshold of a "micropayment." Almost as many - about 14 million Americans - had purchased something online for less than $2, a figure that grew three and a half times over last year's results. Several independent studies agree that the market for micropayments is growing rapidly, from roughly $3 billion this year, continuing on a trajectory to about $12 in five years.
