Meebo Courts Third-Party Devs with Profit-Sharing Ad Network

IM service aggregator Meebo has tapped video sharing site VideoEgg to power ads served through its third-party app developers.

Meebo availed its platform to third-party applications in mid-November.

The combination of Meebo's open platform, and VideoEgg's existing ad inventory, is hoped to be a major draw from devs looking to control the ads displayed on their works.

Revenue from the ads delivered by VideoEgg will be split between itself, Meebo and the developer of the application. Developers may also insert their own ads if they wish.

Most of the applications developed through Meebo's platform tend to be casual multi-player games, with a sprinkling of video chat applications. With time, Meebo believes more varied apps will develop.

Advertising against third-party apps may yet prove to be a good source of income for the company.
