Law's champions
The champions of the most recent campaign finance reform law, Senators John McCain and Russ Feingold issued a joint statement both reassuring bloggers that the law is not engineered in a way that could reasonably be applied to make blog entries a regulable form of campaign contribution. The senators characterized recent comments by partisan members of the Federal Elections Commission - a body that has repeatedly shown reluctance in enforcing the campaign finance measures - as "misinformation from the antireform crowd" designed to "whip up baseless fears."
