Match.com, already the world's largest online site, is expanding its global reach with the acquisition of a French dating site, as well as a Chinese social networking site. The two sites, which are French online dating site Netclub and Chinese social networking site eDodo, will add 4 million subscribers to Match.com's existing base of 15 million users, Wired reports. The acquisitions mark a shift in strategy for the Dallas-based online dating site, which had for years sought to grow its subscriber base organically, and through the addition of premium features. The acquisition of eDodo is particularly interesting in that it not only gives Match.com its first presence in China, but that the Chinese market is more receptive to combining dating aspects into social networking sites.
