Online Ad Growth to Outpace Total Ad Growth
Online advertising will grow at a faster pace in 2011 than overall advertising, according to estimates from Borrell Associates. The firm's analysis finds that total online ad spending (including mobile) will grow almost 14%, from $45.6 billion in 2010, to $51.9 billion in 2011. Overall, advertisers will increase their spending next year by less than 5% above this year's projected level, bringing US ad spending totals to $238.6 billion. This means online advertising will account for about 22% of total ad spending.
Digital Ad Spend Grows 47% in First Half of Year
A separate survey shows the growth online ads have posted so far this year. According to the Rubicon Project, digital ad spend increased by 47% in the first half of this year. At the beginning of Q2, CPMs across the Rubicon 20 Index had risen by an average of 25 percent vs. Q1 2010.
People Want Behaviorally-Targeted E-mails
Consumers say they want e-mails that are relevant to them - and in fact want behaviorally-targeted e-mails, according to e-Dialog. This includes personal alerts such as warning about a low balance account in a checking account. (55%), reminders about tasks that need to be completed (44%) and follow up on a customer service experience (43%).
