Women Account for 46% of Global Web Users

Women account for slightly fewer than half of global internet users but spend more time online than men, according to a new study from comScore. Globally, women represent 46% of internet users age 18 and up - but much depends on where they live. For example, women represent 50.4% of North American internet users. Elsewhere women are still underrepresented: in Asia Pacific they represent only 42.1% of internet users, Europe (47%) and Latin America (48.1%).

adidas Captures 40% of World Cup Blog Mentions

Among major sponsors of the recently-concluded World Cup soccer championship, adidas enjoyed a clear advantage in blog mentions, capturing 42.2% of blog activity during the tournament, according to data from Sysomos. Sony came in a distant second with 20.2% of blog mentions, and Coca-Cola placed third with 12.2% of mentions. Interestingly, the two automakers on the list, Hyundai and Kia, held the bottom two places and combined for slightly less than 10% of blog mentions.

Young Latinos Use Mobile Communication

When it comes to socializing and communicating with friends, young Latinos (ages 16 to 25) make extensive use of mobile technology, according to new data from the Pew Hispanic Center. Half of young Latinos say they text message (50%) their friends daily, and 45% say they talk daily with friends on a cell phone. Fewer than one-in-five young Latinos (18%) say they talk daily with their friends on a landline or home phone, and just 10% say they email their friends daily.

Travel Sites Surge in June

Travel, online gaming and teen sites all surged in popularity between May and June 2010, according to comScore Media Metrix data. More than 100 million Americans visited the category during the month, affecting the following travel sub-categories: transactions, hotels/resorts, ground/cruise, and airplanes.
